Position Overview: Reporting to the Director of Investment Technology, the Software Engineer will design, implement, and maintain modern APIs, data pipelines, and backend data platforms that support and further develop the technology infrastructure of the organization’s Quantitative and Fundamental investment teams. Responsibilities include developing pipelines and libraries to retrieve data and perform computation, but also creating front-end applications to interact with data, all to innovate the next level of analytics systems that effectively integrate with and enhance current research applications. The Software Engineer will join an experienced agile team in a highly collaborative environment, using modern technology and software development techniques.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with analysts and portfolio managers to build, analyze, and improve Causeway’s proprietary investment management applications and data pipelines.
  • Develop performant Python packages that enhance the productivity of quantitative researchers by providing common interfaces for performing computations across large data sets and evaluating the results.
  • Create data pipelines to onboard new research data sets and automate production investment management.
  • Craft APIs that provide easy access and intuitive interfaces to analysts and portfolio managers as well as fellow engineers building proprietary investment management applications.
  • Build modern containerized apps using Python, SQL, and Docker in a hybrid cloud environment.
  • Take ownership of the technology solutions produced, focusing on the delivery of quality code and data.
  • Collaborate with the team in breaking down work, iteratively shipping well-crafted code, and seeking feedback.

Qualifications:

  • 2+ years’ relevant experience and a degree in Computer Science (or related field) with a strong GPA.
  • Passion for growing as a software craftsman and agile development practitioner.
  • Strong foundational skills in object-oriented design and data structures.
  • Established Python and SQL programming skills.
  • Experience or demonstrable interest in building solutions to support quantitative analysts or data scientists (e.g. leveraging time-series data, writing and testing quantitative code).
  • Working knowledge of Pandas, Numpy, and Git.
  • Capital Markets or Asset Management experience and related datasets/vendors is a plus.
  • Collegial communication skills applicable to collaborating in a team environment.
